Have You Met Miss Jones Blog

London Calling

J J - Tuesday, July 27, 2010
London is definitely still one of the top cities for design and innovation. You sometimes can not beat that British flavour.

Here are my picks of the newest shops to check out..

Anthropologie has finally arrived on English shores and these stores are huge, beautifully merchandised and a true inspiration. The one on King's Rd is housed in an old auction/antiques house and they have preserved the heritage features of the building. The Regent St store has a 'living wall' - a terrific three storey plant wall which is it's own eco system, right down to the mini spiders that live in the plants to control the mosquitos and other nasties.

Spitalfields Market ( a 5 min walk from Liverpool St tube) has had a redevelopment and now is home to trendy
boutiques and restaurants. Check out Agnes B and eat at Canteen for the quintessential school dinners lunch
poshed up - think jelly and custard and fish finger sandwiches. I loved this vintage industrial shop called Elemental
inside the market area.

Cheshire St, off Brick Lane, is a cool collection of little individual stores lined up in a row. My favourites
were Labour and Wait for traditional pre-war type cleaning paraphernalia and Shelf - a great stockist of
ceramics, cards and posters.

Around the corner is Redchurch St and the newly opened Albion. This is proper 'caff' serving up great
food and breads with a shop dedicated to British food. With the doors open on a warm day it makes for a
nice spot to rest your legs.

Perch Range Coming Soon

J J - Wednesday, June 02, 2010
Chirp chirp, the best selling Perch range is just about to fly in.

This is the newest of our clay pottery designs and if history repeats itself then it's bound
to be a winner, since it features the icon of the year. A bird.

Yes, who would have thought the humble creature would prove so popular with just about everyone.

Recycled Glass Range

J J - Tuesday, June 01, 2010
Introducing our new recycled glass range, made from old fluorescent light tubes.

There are five bottle designs and all come with a wire hoop for hanging.
These look great displayed on a wall en masse with a single stem or leaf in each.

We've also got two styles of metal bottle holders with the test tube style bottle.
Prices start at just $9 for a single bottle.

We say 'yay' to WA

J J - Wednesday, May 19, 2010

Miss Jones was lucky enough to spend a weekend in Perth with one of her besties and here are her top tips:

Favourite Stores:

Mr Sparrow - Shop 3, 223 Bagot Rd, Subiaco

Great home ware and design store run by the beautiful Anna

William Topp - 452 William St, Northbridge

Lovely vintage modernist store with amazing pieces chosen by Kate

Subway DC – 36 King St, Perth

Great denim selection and amazing service! We all know how tricky it can be to get that pair of skinnies and the dude here was truly remarkable in his know-how.

Chow Time:

Must Wine Bar – 519 Beaufort St, Highgate

Martini’s and foie gras! We shared 5 dishes and standouts have got to be the Tiger Prawn Soufflé and the Scallops in their shell with Pork Belly and Sweet corn Puree. They also serve wine by the “taste” allowing you a few sips before you commit to a glass.

Andaluz – 21 Howard St, Perth

Part of the small bar scene that’s come onto Australian shores. Great hidden away tapas bar with a crowd worth watching. Can be cougar city on a Saturday night but this just makes for interesting people watching!

Things to do:

Rottnest Island

Get a ferry out here and go native on the back of a bike. Beautiful Bays like The Basin and Parakeet Bay will entice you. And once you’ve finished the 24kms around, then you will have earned your fish and chips and bottle of WA Sauvignon Blanc at the local pub.

Little Creatures Brewery, Fremantle

Great atmosphere in this huge warehouse serving up their locally brewed beer and a tassssty selection of pizza and other pub grub. My fav is the Bright Ale.

New York, Chicago, Mickey and Me

J J - Monday, April 26, 2010
Miss Jones was lucky enough to head over to the States for a design trip and you'll be seeing the fruits of her labour in the next couple of months.

Things that she was impressed with:

ABC Homes on Broadway. A serious emporium and overwhelming experience for the home ware senses. I have a feeling that little deer pictured is going to be seen as a bedside lamp before long.

Museums x 100. Not enough time to soak up all that art. However, Joseph Cornell was a massive influence. Check out our interpretation of his art in our next collection called "Found". This is a collection of bone china miniatures based around the idea of a kid's collection box. Plus loved Georgia O'Keefe (cow skulls are a fav of mine)

Awesome coloured floorboards at the Core Club in NYC.

The bean in Chicago. Beautiful lines, would make an interesting range of...something

Frank Lloyd Wright! Amazing to see the first house he designed and lived in.

Expect to see the biggest range of new goodies in the next couple of months!

This Little Rabbit Went to the Fair

J J - Tuesday, March 09, 2010
Whew, we are shattered from the trade fair but we had a great result and
soon you'll be able to find Miss Jones in even more outlets across Australia.

Just for fun I got into this rabbit suit and I now have a new appreciation for
anyone who has to get into these things for a living. It was steamy in there!

Our Stand!!!

Some of our new stock.

All Aboard

J J - Wednesday, February 24, 2010

This weekend is the GHA Fair which starts on Saturday out in Homebush. We'll be there with our new stand concept which is based on a 1950's cargo ship. If you're in the industry or if you just fancy a day out then it'll be great to see you. We're stand number HM18 and I'm the girl in the striped t-shirt (well, Miss Jones's outfit did have to tie in with the theme!)
